Owen Strachan Misrepresents Prayer as “Wokeness”

At the Wokeness & The Gospel Conference held at Denton Bible Church on June 11th, 2021, Owen Strachan misrepresents a prayer written by Chanequa Walker-Barnes.

In his message, Owen only quotes the first of 11 paragraphs of Chanequa's prayer, where she is airing out her anger to God in what she is writing as an imprecatory psalm following a conversation where a White friend casually dropped the N-word.

What Owen intentionally leaves out is the rest of the prayer where Chanequa turns to ask God to not let her anger and hatred overwhelm her. She prays that God will help her remain true to the biblical mandate for peace, justice and reconciliation. Owen doesn't share this though, but rather pulls the section that will fit his narrative that Chanequa's prayer comes from "wokeness" and not from the pain and hurt caused by ongoing racism.
